HOW IT WORKS

How becoming a patient actually works.

A few short steps.

  • Open the EMERGE portal from Book now
  • Browse visit types, from a focused visit to a full assessment
  • Nothing to install, works on any device
STEP 02

  • Click your visit type to expand it
  • Highlighted days have open appointments
  • Evening and weekend slots open every week
STEP 03

Choose a time

Your first visit

What to expect.

  • A video call with your nurse practitioner, no physical exam needed
  • A walk through your health history, current medications, and any concerns
  • Honest answers about what we can and can't manage
  • A care plan, prescription, lab requisition, or referral when needed, sent through the portal
  • Time at the end for questions

What we can prescribe

In Ontario, nurse practitioners practise independently and can prescribe most medications, with a few exceptions.

  • Most antibiotics, antivirals, and antifungals
  • Hormonal contraception and hormone replacement therapy
  • Blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes medications
  • Mental-health medications (SSRIs, SNRIs, some others)
  • Asthma inhalers and other respiratory medications
  • Selected pain management treatments when clinically appropriate, with careful assessment and follow-up

What we refer out

Some care is best handled by a specialist. When that’s the case, we coordinate the referral and stay involved.

  • Long-term chronic-pain management, usually handled by a pain specialist
  • Complex psychiatric medication regimens (referred to psychiatry)
  • Procedures that need a hospital or surgical suite
  • Highly specialized conditions (e.g., cardiology, respirology), where we coordinate the referral
